The Administrative Hearings Division offers prerecorded training for hearing officers that qualify for credit toward both the initial hearing officer training requirement and the continuing education requirement for hearing officers. Course Descriptions

June 2020: Annual Hearing Officer and KRS Chapter 13B Training (Required for initial 18-hour training)

Topics: 13B Fundamentals, presiding at an administrative hearing, post evidentiary proceedings and non-hearing disposition of cases

Duration: 3 hours (no ethics)

Cost: $50

October 2017: Handling the Facts: From Investigation to Appeal (Only available on DVD)

Topics: Distinguishing facts from fiction, investigating a case, cross examination, writing solid opinions, finding and writing the facts, 13 B’s Residuum Rule, Kentucky rules of professional conduct

Duration: 6.0 hours (including 1.0 hour ethics)

Cost: $50

October 2018: Hearing Officer and KRS Chapter 13B Training

Topics: Hearing officer practice issues, administrative case law update, writing tips for hearing officers, women in the law, the Daubert Rule, due process, civility in the law

Duration:6.5 hours (includes 1.0 hour ethics)

April 2019: Annual Hearing Officer and KRS Chapter 13B Training

Topics: Ethical duties, finding and writing the facts, deciding and writing conclusions of law and orders, 13B fundamentals and prehearing practice, conducting the 13B hearing, and post hearing practices

Duration:6.0 hours (includes 1.0 hour ethics)
